The nitrogen-water tower in our plant is a packed-bed tower; during operation, the water distributor became clogged due to wax present in the circulating water. Later, part of it was cleared by opening and closing the valves. But now the water volumes can be added together, and the temperature at the circulating water outlet is on the high side. Is it the uneven gas-liquid exchange caused by repeatedly opening and closing the valves that leads to flow deviation? May I ask the experts: is it possible for cross-flow to occur in a packed tower?
It’s normal for there to be flow deviation in packed towers; otherwise, why would there be regenerators?
