General patterns of failures in industrial instruments: leakage, blockage, jamming, poor contact, open circuits, short circuits, and looseness. General methods for dealing with such failures: (1) Observe first before taking action; (2) Check the external parts before the internal ones; (3) Examine the mechanical components before the wiring; (4) Address the overall system before focusing on individual parts. These methods were learned from a textbook. I can’t remember.
I’m not sure what it means to do the mechanical aspects first and then the wiring aspects; I always thought it should be the wiring first and then the mechanical parts. If there’s a problem with a control valve, surely one should check the actuator first before disassembling the cylinder, right?
