(1) H–Na ion exchange using a strongly acidic H-ion exchanger; this system can be further divided into parallel H–Na ion exchange and series H–Na ion exchange. (2) H–Na ion exchange using a weakly acidic H-ion exchanger. (3) The H-type exchanger uses H–Na ion exchange with a lean regeneration method. The aforementioned method is primarily used to remove hardness from water, reduce its alkalinity, without increasing the salt content in the water.
