How to determine the pipe category of sewage pipes? Is it GC2 or GC3?
This depends on the Safety Technical Inspection Regulations for Pressure Pipelines.
Based on the components contained in the wastewater, whether it contains toxic, flammable, or corrosive substances, it is also necessary to determine whether the conditions for being considered a pressure pipeline are met (diameter, as well as pressure and temperature).

The operating pressure of the sewage pipeline must be greater than or equal to 0.1 MPa; if not, it does not qualify as a pressure pipeline. Pressure pipelines in Category GC3 refer to those carrying non-toxic, non-flammable fluid media, mainly things like air and nitrogen. The components in wastewater are quite complex, and it certainly does not meet the criterion of being non-toxic; therefore, it should be classified as GC2.
First, it is necessary to determine whether this pipeline is a pressure pipeline (based on the definition of pressure pipelines), and then decide whether it belongs to GC2 or GC3; GC3 class refers to pipes used for transporting non-toxic, non-flammable fluid media, with a design pressure of less than or equal to 1.0 MPa, and a design temperature ranging from above -20°C to below 185°C ; It is then clear that it can be determined based on the medium of this pipeline, its design temperature, and design pressure. Sewer pipes are usually not under pressure, so they do not fall under the category of pressure pipes; therefore, issues such as GC2 and GC3 do not apply to them.
If the requirements of at least 0.1 MPa and a pipe diameter of at least 50 mm are met, it should be classified as GC2. Even without considering sewage, in the case of seawater, once these conditions are satisfied, it is considered a pressure pipeline
