If the oil does not form foam, use ultrasonic technology; if foam is present, ultrasonic methods will give inaccurate readings. Radar can be used in such cases, but it is more expensive than ultrasonic technology
The storage tanks in the plant are all equipped with radar level gauges; guide waves radar is used for some high-viscosity heavy oils and residue oils. Servo level gauges are planned for use in the new storage tanks, but actually magnetostrictive level gauges are used there, while differential pressure type gauges are used in the old storage tanks
How tall is the tank? Choose one with good cost-performance from the range of measurement options. When there is a lot of sludge at the bottom of the tank, it’s best to use a non-contact method
