Besides the consumption method using potassium dichromate, what other methods are there for determining COD?
There is also the combustion method, which is suitable for relatively clean water.
There are currently **two categories of methods for COD testing in standards: one is the potassium dichromate method, which is mainly used for wastewater and is also the designated method for environmental monitoring. Another potassium permanganate method, primarily used for water supply, is the designated method for monitoring municipal water supplies. Other methods are not recognized by environmental agencies at present; however, they can be used for monitoring and guidance during the water treatment process, but not as indicators for determining the final COD value of water quality. These methods include ultraviolet absorption spectrophotometry, electrochemical digestion, tube furnace combustion, and the TOC conversion method (TOC being an objective indicator of organic pollution in wastewater).
