A column needs to be installed there, but there are buried pipes beneath the column – 1 meter of circulating water, buried at a depth of around 1.2 meters. If those pipes are damaged, it will affect the circulating water system throughout the entire factory. May I ask if the pipe can be compressed? What we’ve thought of is making the foundation slab larger, reducing the depth of the foundation to 700mm–750mm, digging it deeper so that the pipes can be placed inside the foundation, and using sleeves or similar solutions. But there’s one problem: all these ideas are based on guesswork; there are no calculations or regulatory guidelines to guide us, and no one can guarantee that this approach won’t cause damage. At the moment, we don’t need to know what should be done; rather, we need to find explicit regulations that can be used to convince the property owners and protect ourselves. Is there any standard or guideline that specifies the calculation methods regarding whether underground pipes can be buried beneath the structural foundation?
Either the foundation avoids the buried pipes, or the buried pipes avoid the foundation. It’s not feasible to combine the two, as the foundation must be built starting from a compacted layer; usually, digging needs to go down more than a meter. If you dig too shallowly, the foundation will sink under the weight applied to it, and that’s no joke. I’ve never seen pipes being installed through foundations; doing so would definitely have negative effects on the foundation. I doubt there’s any structural reason for carrying out such an action.
It’s definitely not possible to fit the pipe inside the foundation; you can recalculate by changing a single unified foundation into two separate ones and then combining them, leaving a space for the pipe in between. Additionally, you need to take into account the issues related to maintenance once the pipe is damaged – it’s quite complicated in general.
Try not to compress the pipes; unless a series of analyses and calculations show that it’s fine, otherwise any issues that arise will make it more difficult to fix them later on
