Our factory currently has a set of grade 2 steam jet pumps, imported from Germany. The technical requirements at the time of factory construction were: a design pressure of 12.5 bar, with the steam inlet pressure at the nozzles also being 12.5 bar; there was no requirement regarding operating pressure. Is there any problem with such a design? In actual operation, the steam pressure can only reach around 10 bar – is this the main reason why the pumping capacity of the jet pump does not meet the requirements? In my opinion, if the designed pressure is 12.5 bar but the actual working steam pressure can only reach 10 bar, then the working pressure should be 10 bar – there is therefore a problem with the design! I hope the experts here can give me some advice!
What are the requirements for suction capacity? What can be achieved at a steam pressure of 10 bar?
There must be a problem with the design; at the site, it was designed to operate at 10 bar, so why was it designed for 12.5 bar? Mainly, the exhaust pressure is greatly affected; if the exhaust occurs at the final stage, operation will definitely be impacted, as poor exhaust flow can lead to backflow!
We hope to achieve a pressure of below 3 mbar, but when using steam at 10 bar, we can only manage around 5 mbar
Can the nozzle be changed to improve a situation like this?
Increase the nozzle diameter to boost the power steam flow! However, it depends on whether the condenser in between can condense the additional steam; otherwise, it won’t work!
