Recently, I was working on the calculation for a heat exchanger; one tag number referred to 7 heat exchangers. Initially, there were 3 groups in parallel, with two heat exchangers in series within each group. Later, the client modified one of those groups by adding another heat exchanger in series, resulting in a configuration of 3+2+2 in parallel. So, how should I determine the series/parallel arrangement when using HTRI for these calculations? Thank you all!
Could you be more detailed, please? How is it handled when selecting heat exchangers using software for calculations?
The owner is quite interesting – can’t each branch be calculated separately, just like in the heat exchange of atmospheric and vacuum distillation units?
Can a HTRI file accomplish this task?
Should the heat and cold flows be distributed evenly? Normally, they should be. Allocate the hot and cold flows evenly; it’s sufficient to account for each circuit separately.
Thank you. These 3 inlet paths don’t have control valves; the flow is presumably distributed automatically based on the pressure drop along each path, rather than in an equal manner. I’m wondering how the selection was made back then. Usually, when performing calculations for selection, we don’t need to consider each path individually, right? For example, in a setup of 3 groups of 2 elements connected in series, we just input the number of shells in series or in parallel into the heat exchanger calculation software
