Brothers, are there any of you who work in diesel hydrocracking? Is there a big difference between diesel hydrocracking and diesel hydroprocessing?
In fact, there is no significant difference; the catalyst models are similar. The difference lies in the focus of the catalyst’s function: hydrocracking tends to emphasize cracking, while hydroprocessing emphasizes refining. In terms of reaction conditions, hydrocracking is more intense than hydroprocessing. As for the feed oil, hydrocracking involves more intensive treatment compared to hydrorefining. The purpose of processing is simply to remove impurities and increase the cetane number
A cracking unit can be converted into a refining unit, but not the reverse. The purposes are different, so the differences are quite significant.
The reaction conditions and pressures are different, but the process flow is not much alike
Diesel hydrocracking and diesel hydroprocessing are essentially different; hydroprocessing improves the quality of diesel, such as by reducing its pour point and increasing its octane number, and the end product remains diesel, with only a small amount of cracking products (naphtha) being produced. Diesel hydrocracking is somewhat similar to wax oil hydrocracking; the goal is to lighten the feedstock. The main products are light naphtha, heavy naphtha, liquefied gas, and hydrocracking tail oil, etc. The purpose is to supply aromatics to the reforming units, while the tail oil can be used as feedstock for ethylene production or fed back into wax oil hydrocracking.
