The Yijingyuan residential complex is located in the Baimashan area, and due to issues with heat sources and pipeline installation, heating in this area has always been a problem. “This residential complex will use heat storage boilers powered by off-peak electricity for heating this winter; the installation is now almost complete, and heating is expected to be available by the end of November. Yijingyuan Community is the first community in Jinan to use low-temperature heat storage boilers for heating,” said a staff member. “During the first year of heating in this community, heating and billing were carried out in accordance with the contract.” ” A so-called off-peak electric heat storage boiler is a device that converts electrical energy into heat during off-peak times and stores it; during the day, this stored heat is released through a heating system and delivered to consumers’ homes. The staff stated that electric thermal storage boilers store heat during periods of low electricity demand; the energy used for heating comes from electricity that has already been generated, so there is no increase in coal consumption. These boilers help to stabilize the operation of the power grid in the Jinan area by balancing peak and off-peak loads, thereby effectively regulating the grid’s load. “The heating area of Yijingyuan residential complex amounts to 21,000 square meters; if coal is used for heating, more than 300 tons of standard coal would need to be burned throughout the heating season. ”The staff said that since the thermal storage boilers use off-peak electricity to store heat at night, they operate at the lower off-peak rates, which are cheaper than the daytime electricity prices. Additionally, 8 hours of heat storage is sufficient to supply heat to residents for 24 hours.
Air-source heat pumps draw heat from the atmosphere; they are noise-free and cause no pollution. In addition to using heat storage boilers powered by off-peak electricity for heating, Jinan has been employing air-source heat pumps for heating since last year. The Fangzhengyuan residential complex, located on Wuyingshan East Road, began using air-source heat pumps for heating last year. Staff explained that, in principle, an air-source heat pump is similar to a household air conditioner with heating and cooling functions; in winter, it draws heat from the atmosphere by consuming a small amount of electrical energy, and then transfers this heat to consumers’ homes through a heating system. The Fangzhengyuan residential complex covers an area of 37,000 square meters for heating, and almost the entire area is now heated. In addition to the Fangzhengyuan residential area, other areas such as Daxueshi Garden, Railway North Freight Yard, the old Tousheng area, No. 14 Middle School, and Shunwen Middle School will also use air-source heat pumps for heating this winter. Construction has already begun in all these locations, and it is expected that the installation of the equipment will be completed by the end of November. In addition, the Impression Jinan Leisure Center located in the Western New City will also use air-source heat pumps for heating; the bidding process for this project has already been completed. According to statistics, a total of 8 projects in the jurisdiction of Jinan Thermal Power have adopted new energy for heating this year, covering an area of over 500,000 square meters. Throughout the heating season, it will result in a reduction of 7,500 tons of standard coal consumption, a decrease in particulate pollutant emissions by 262.5 tons, a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 19,950 tons, a decrease in sulfur dioxide emissions by 105 tons, and a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions by 31.5 tons.
It is a good option and method that can effectively reduce air pollution; it is necessary to continue monitoring whether its actual performance meets the requirements.
