The function of a vacuum pump is to remove gas molecules from the vacuum chamber, reducing the gas pressure inside it until the desired level of vacuum is achieved. To achieve the optimal configuration, the following points should be considered when selecting a vacuum system: 1. The ultimate pressure of the vacuum pump must meet the operating pressure required by the process. Typically, the ultimate pressure of the pump is chosen to be about one order of magnitude lower than the process requirements. 2. Each type of pump has a certain operating pressure range. Therefore, the operating point of the pump should be selected within this range, and it should not be allowed to operate for extended periods outside the permissible operating pressure. 3. At its operating pressure, the vacuum pump should be capable of removing all the gas generated during the process in the vacuum equipment. 4. Choose the Daltong vacuum unit: (1) When a single pump is not sufficient to meet the pumping and vacuum requirements, several pumps need to be combined to complement each other in order to satisfy the process requirements. (2) Some vacuum pumps cannot operate at atmospheric pressure and require pre-evacuation; others have an outlet pressure lower than atmospheric pressure and need a forepump. Therefore, these pumps need to be used in combination. Vacuum pumps used in combination are what we call vacuum pump units; they enable vacuum systems to achieve a higher level of vacuum and better exhaust capacity. We should choose the appropriate combination of vacuum pumps, as different vacuum pumps have varying requirements regarding the gases to be evacuated; for example, in general, rotary vane units are not suitable for systems containing large amounts of condensable gases. 5. When choosing an oil-sealed pump, you should first understand whether your vacuum system has any requirements regarding oil contamination. If the equipment requires absolutely no oil, various oil-free pumps should be selected, such as water ring pumps and cryogenic pumps. If the requirements are not strict, a vacuum pump can be used, along with various oil-contamination prevention measures such as cold traps, oil traps, and baffles, to meet the requirements for a clean vacuum environment. 6. Understand the composition of the gas being sampled, whether it contains condensable vapors, particulate dust, or corrosive substances. When selecting a vacuum pump, it is necessary to know the gas composition and choose an appropriate pump for the gas to be evacuated. If the gas contains steam, particles, and corrosive gases, it is necessary to consider installing auxiliary equipment such as condensers and dust collectors on the inlet pipeline of the pump. 7. When selecting an oil-sealed vacuum pump, it is necessary to consider the impact of the oil vapor (fume) emitted by the vacuum pump on the environment. If the environment does not allow pollution, an oil-free vacuum pump should be used, or the oil vapor should be vented outside. 8. Determine whether the vibrations generated by the vacuum pump during operation have an impact on the manufacturing process and the surrounding environment; if such an impact is not acceptable, a vibration-free pump should be selected or vibration prevention measures should be taken. 9. The price of the vacuum pump, as well as the costs associated with its operation and maintenance. Only after considering all various factors can a solution suitable for you be finally determined: (1) minimum investment cost. (2) Minimum production operating cost. (3) A feasible plan that distributes the first two cases in a reasonable and even manner.
