Dear colleagues, I have a question. For the new distillation project at our company, the reboilers and heat exchangers operate under pressures of 0.1 to 0.4 MPa and at temperatures up to 150 degrees Celsius. The large flanges used to connect the tube boxes to the shell feature RF sealing surfaces; the male and female faces on the pipe ends are fine. I’m a bit concerned about the large flanges, as the materials used in distillation are flammable and explosive. Can RF sealing surfaces be used in this case? What standards can be referred to?
Rough-faced flanges are generally used for pressures above 6.4 MPa; RF-sealed flanges should be fine for low-pressure applications.
The answer above is correct; however, for more stringent applications, a sealed surface with uneven contours provides better results.
The temperature and pressure don’t seem very high, so the RF sealing surface is just right~ There’s no need to choose a textured surface; the design should be reasonable and cost-effective: lol
Both pressure and temperature are not high; there is no issue with the flange on the RF side
