What to do if the quench ring is blocked?

First, drill a hole for the cooling water jet using a drill bit, and then clean it with a high-pressure water hose; this usually results in a thorough cleaning. (I’m talking about what to do after stopping the vehicle; as for continuing to drive when the quenching ring is blocked, it depends on skill and courage – those with high skills can still proceed.)
The quench ring is blocked; continuing to use that downcomer is basically unnecessary!
After the shutdown due to blockage of the quenching ring, the poured material is removed and then cut using plasma cutting; following the cutting, the blocked area is cleaned, polished, and rewelded
It’s fine to block one or two holes, right? If too many are blocked, the vehicle will have to be stopped for clearing. It mainly depends on the water distribution in the quenching ring before driving
Is there a lighter-weight way to handle it?
After shutdown due to blockage of the quenching ring, the outer wall of the quenching ring is cleaned, then plasma cutting is used; following the cutting, the blocked area is cleaned, ground, and rewelded. Generally, a single quenching ring can be rewelded up to three times. There are also manufacturers that design the quenching ring with several removable cleaning holes, but I have never seen any such designs in practice.
Half of my furnace’s quench ring is blocked, and there’s a hole the size of a fist in the downcomer; the downcomer has severe wavy deformation. The manager said it’s fine and suggested cutting out the deformed part and adding a patch; The quenching ring got clogged last year; three openings were cut in it, and the hard residues inside were removed using a grinder before the ring was reinstalled. It’s important that all those gaps remain unobstructed; after 200 days of operation, there were no problems with the space furnace
