As a newcomer in the field of water environmental protection, I would like to ask some experienced colleagues a question. In recent years, in China’s wastewater treatment sector, MVR and multi-effect evaporation technologies have been the preferred options. Generally, if there is an abundance of steam, multi-effect evaporation is used; whereas when steam is scarce, MVR is chosen. The question is this: since thermal vapor compression evaporation (TVR) seems to offer greater energy savings by allowing for one additional stage compared to traditional multi-effect evaporation, why is TVR rarely used in China’s wastewater treatment industry? Those who have used TVRs believe that they are suitable in certain situations; it seems that their advantages become evident when the quality of the steam is relatively high (above 0.8 MPa). Is it perhaps because of the complexity involved in their adjustment? Also, can steam at 1 MPa be directly used as raw steam in the heating chamber of a falling film evaporator? Thank you all
The amount of raw steam used by TVR is far greater than the amount that can be recovered, and the use of secondary steam poses a significant issue: if it can be utilized in its entirety, this leads to energy savings; otherwise, it remains merely a theoretical possibility for energy savings
In other words, the equipment might have to be made very large; if it’s not used in a multi-effect setup but only for single-effect use, and there’s no way to utilize the secondary steam, then it’s not worth it, right?
TVR will use a heat pump; it has a large condenser area and requires a lot of cooling circulating water as well
