POX: Hydrogen production via partial oxidation; the raw materials can be slag reducer, asphalt, petroleum coke, or coal. It is used in conjunction with solvent deasphalting – is it for producing hydrogen from asphalt?
I haven’t been exposed to it, but after looking up some information, the manufacturing process seems similar to that of hydrogen produced from coal
It is estimated that delustering is used to obtain deasphalted oil, and then the deoiled asphalt is gasified; I have only been exposed to coal gasification, and not to other methods.
Solvent deasphalting + POX may be used to prepare catalyst feedstock.

This approach uses the solubility of solvents to remove asphaltenes and impurities from vacuum residue, thereby providing high-quality feedstock for catalytic or hydrocracking processes. The properties of supercritical solvents, along with their low density, enable countercurrent mixing in the liquid phase, enhancing uniform mass transfer. This also facilitates the energy-efficient recovery of the solvents, although asphalts are produced as a by-product of this solvent extraction process. Typically, during the leaching process used to prepare feedstock for catalysis, a high yield of deasphalted oil is obtained; at this point the asphalt becomes of poor quality and difficult to process. POX gasification represents a good option, although the investment required for POX systems is significant.
