I recently designed a steam distribution cylinder using superheated steam as the working medium; the design pressure is 1.65 MPa and the design temperature is 370°C, with two DN125 steam inlets... How should the safety valve be calculated? The SW6 calculation software cannot perform this calculation; I wonder if any manufacturers of safety valves know how to do it
Is really no one paying attention? I also know how to calculate superheated steam, but I couldn’t find any calculation examples online either. :(
There is no need for calculations; according to the container regulations, the flow rate at the outlet of your cylinder is equal to the minimum discharge capacity of the safety valve. Since safety valves with larger diameters are more expensive, it is possible to use multiple safety valves in order to achieve cost efficiency – the total discharge capacity of these valves should be sufficient to exceed the flow rate at the container’s outlet.

First, it’s necessary to calculate the leakage rate; since you have two 125 units, it’s important to determine the leakage rate for one 125 unit first. That rate is 4261 kg/h, so for two 125 units, the leakage rate is approximately 8520 kg/h. Switching to the known leakage rate mode allows for the determination of the minimum cross-sectional area; accordingly, a safety valve with a diameter of DN80x100 was selected. An automatically generated calculation sheet is attached, which contains detailed formulas and steps for the calculations.
