The ones we commonly use are globe valves, gate valves, butterfly valves, ball valves, check valves, and safety valves. It seems to me that ball valves are the most expensive among them, but I’m not sure why – is it because the valve body of ball valves is the heaviest, or is there some other reason?
The manufacturing process for ball valves is more complex than that for gate valves, and since most balls are made of 304 stainless steel, the cost associated with the material increases. It’s difficult to estimate the price of valves. I’ve been in sales for many years, and there are some product models that aren’t listed in any price lists; even I might get those prices wrong when estimating them, let alone someone who isn’t in the valve industry. To find out the price, one needs to compare prices from different suppliers. At most, the valve manufacturer can provide the weight of the valve, and then one can calculate the cost of materials based on the price of the steel used for the valve body (the steel used in boiler and container construction). This method can only give a rough estimate; it’s difficult to determine the costs associated with machining, heat treatment, and inspection.
