If air gets into the oil tank, wouldn’t that create an explosive mixture? I can’t figure it out; it’s still far above the explosion limit, so why isn’t there any concern?
If it is directly combined with the atmosphere, then breathe in from the air. When air enters the oil tank, an oil-gas mixture is certainly formed. As for whether it falls within the explosion range, it is impossible to calculate due to the dynamic equilibrium involved. However, there is generally no need to worry about fires or explosions, because first, oil tanks are designed with lightning and static electricity protection measures along with proper grounding; second, there are strict regulations prohibiting the use of fire in oil tank areas; third, appropriate fire extinguishing equipment must be available. There is also a type of breather valve that takes in nitrogen (the intake is connected to the nitrogen pipeline), with the exhaust being released directly into the atmosphere
It depends on what kind of oil it is, that is, its flash point.
Generally, a nitrogen seal valve together with a one-way exhaust valve is sufficient.
