As far as I know, drain valves come in basket-type and float-type designs; I’m not sure if this type of installation is possible

A check valve should be installed before the condensed water flowing after the steam trap enters the recovery main pipe, to prevent backflow of the condensed water. Don’t mislead people on the 2nd floor. Visually, there seems to be no problem with this installation; the steam trap should have steam exiting from the side, with the float located on the side as well. But there should be a bypass route as well~
This is a lever-type float steam trap, so it can be installed without any problems.

As can be seen from the picture, there is no water collection tray, so very little condensate can be drained through the steam trap; it is best to install the water collection tray at a 90-degree corner. Also, it seems that the diameter of the outlet pipe of the steam trap is too small. The steam trap is installed correctly; the lever and float must ensure smooth movement of the float. However, a water collection tank should be installed in front of the steam trap, with a drain valve at the bottom of the tank. Lever-type float valves for steam main drainage are not suitable, as they will leak internally after a short period of time. It is recommended to replace it with an inverted barrel hydrostatic valve, which allows for continuous large-volume discharge when the machine is started, and drip discharge during normal operation.
From the picture, there seems to be no problem, but I wonder if this isn’t a bit overkill – for such a fine hydrophobic coating, wouldn’t a thermodynamic solution work just as well and look better too?

When used for main drainage purposes, aside from their low cost, thermal dynamic steam traps are inferior to inverted bucket steam traps in terms of service life, air leakage rate, quality stability, ease of maintenance, and low-pressure drainage capability (very low pressure during start-up and shutdown). Proper attention must be paid to the selection of steam traps in order to minimize problems after they are put into use. Do not waste energy in an attempt to save money or effort.
