Can national standard valves be used in oil and gas fields?

I found the valve specification sheets for two different facilities: one is for a gas field gathering and transportation project involving H2S, and the other is for a conventional gas field gathering and transportation project. In both cases, whether under low pressure or high pressure, the valves adhere to API standards. I was wondering, does one have to use API just because it’s a flammable or explosive medium? Or under what operating conditions is it necessary to use it? I didn’t pay attention to previous projects; they all used standard national specifications, and the pressure levels weren’t high either, with the maximum being PN40. My English is too poor; some API standards don’t have Chinese versions, so I can’t understand them.
This must be a requirement from the design institute
It’s not necessarily the case; as long as the quality meets the requirements, it can be used. However, using American standards when designing pipes results in more standardization, while Chinese standards are rather chaotic
