I have a question I’d like to ask. During maintenance at our factory, we discovered that a section of pipe was defective. When trying to replace it, we found that the pipes in our inventory didn’t have any labeling indicating their specifications. The original design called for pipes with a diameter of DN250 and a wall thickness of 18 mm, in accordance with GB9948 standards for cracking pipes. The diameter and thickness of the pipes in stock are appropriate; however, it’s not possible to determine the manufacturing standards of these pipes. High-pressure fluid (10 MPA, high-sulfur liquid) flows through these pipes. Can we use the pipes from inventory as a substitute? The pipes in stock are grayish-blue in color, which suggests they have been heat-treated. In our factory, only this particular application requires pipes with a 18 mm wall thickness, as specified in the project plans. It is not recommended to use it when the standard is uncertain. The mechanical properties of the pipes made from 9948 are higher than those of pipes specified in standards such as 8163/6479
If it’s a pipe with the model number 8163, it definitely won’t work; the risks are very high
Cut a section of pipe and send it to the laboratory; collect several sets of data, and use those that fall within the 9948 range.
It’s hard to say; if it’s going to be used, a test can be conducted. According to the GC1 operating conditions specified in GB20801 for pipeline 8163, it’s quite complicated, so it’s better to buy a new one
