Although some studies suggest that asbestos can cause pulmonary fibrosis, in actual use, no instances of asbestos gaskets generating fibers that could pollute the environment have been observed. Could its pollution lie in its manufacturing process? And not in its use after it is manufactured into a finished product?
The use of asbestos gaskets is prohibited more strictly abroad; there was once a project where foreign engineers, upon hearing that asbestos gaskets were being used, went on strike and refused to work. Are asbestos gaskets prohibited? I haven’t heard of this. It’s still being sold normally outside, but insulation materials containing asbestos seem to be banned, as it is said to cause cancer and its fibers remain in the lungs and cannot be expelled.
