I’m a junior staff member in property engineering; the other day, while cleaning the water tank, an employee accidentally operated the valve shown in Figure 1. After cleaning and filling the tank with water, when it was time to close the valve, the valve stem would rotate in the same direction as the handwheel, but it couldn’t be closed properly to control the water flow. It’s been running idle; I’d like to ask the experts whether it’s possible that the internal valve stem is broken, which is causing the idle operation. Are there any other solutions besides replacing the valve stem? Since Figure 1 and Figure 3 are connected directly to each other, I would like to ask whether, if I don’t use the original manufacturer’s part but instead replace it with a similar valve from another manufacturer, the valve stems from these different manufacturers will not fit together due to incompatibility. I hope someone experienced can give me an answer. Thank you.
Disassemble the valve in Figure 1 to check whether it is the valve core that has come loose or the valve stem that has stripped. Figure 3 shows a float-type control valve
The first valve, based on its model, appears to be a steam trap; however, it doesn’t look like one in reality, rather it seems to be a globe valve. If this valve breaks, it can be replaced with a new one or with another valve of the same diameter and pressure rating, but it is necessary to ensure that its length matches that of the valve shown in Figure 1, otherwise it won’t fit. Figure 3 shows the float valve; yours is installed on the water inlet pipe.
