For pipelines where the equipment connections are made by welding, and where overall pressure testing of the equipment is not possible due to limitations imposed by hydraulic strength tests, how can the problem of pipeline pressure testing be resolved?
Simply, for pipes connected to a device, it is possible to use the device’s test pressure for testing (provided that the pipe and the device are part of the same system)
The water pressure in pipelines is generally segmented; it isn’t designed to work together with equipment. If it is necessary to conduct a system integrity test, using the equipment pressure will suffice.
The pipeline and equipment are separated using blind plates (to achieve the purpose of testing only the pipeline).
What about the case where the pipe ends are welded?
Can’t it be pressure-tested along with the equipment? If the test pressure for the equipment is 0.7 times greater than the test pressure for the pipeline, testing can be carried out using the pressure of the equipment
Pipes are definitely connected to equipment using flanges; they’re not connected directly to the equipment itself. After removing the flanges, blind plates can be installed. I’m not sure about the case of direct welding; it seems there are no guidelines for such operations, and it also hinders equipment maintenance and pipeline cleaning. Personally, I think it needs to be corrected.
