A shock-absorbing throat is a hollow rubber product used to provide a flexible connection between metal pipes. Shock-absorbing hoses are also known as rubber flexible joints, flexible rubber connectors, shock-absorbing hoses, bendable rubber joints, high-pressure rubber joints, and rubber shock absorbers. Uses: Connection to pumps and valves, pipes subject to significant vibration, and pipelines with frequent temperature changes. Suitable media: Seawater, fresh water, hot and cold water, drinking water, domestic sewage, crude oil, fuel oil, lubricating oil, refined oil, air, gas, steam, and granular or powdered substances. I have never seen this component used in petrochemical companies; I have not encountered it at the inlet and outlet ends of pumps in such facilities, nor have I seen it in petrochemical engineering designs. I’m not sure if it is used in your companies or design institutes, and in what applications.
This is commonly used on large pipelines; you can go to the circulating water station to take a look – it’s possible that such devices are installed at the inlet and outlet of the circulating water pumps.
When used in circulating water, it serves to absorb shocks and also provides a small amount of pipeline compensation
I just went to the site to take a look, and indeed, as you said, the inlet and outlet of the circulation pump are equipped with shock-absorbing collars. However, no issues were found with the pipes of the process medium pump; it’s not clear whether it’s due to the nature of the medium or, as you mentioned, the pipe diameter.
Its scientific name is rubber expansion joint~~it can provide displacement compensation as well as help reduce vibration and noise~~

Due to its compensating function, it is used in many places~~for example: small compressors, fan outlets, fire hoses, water supply and drainage systems~~
