Screenshot taken from 20570. Blind plates are installed in so many places, yet in actual factories, one sees very few of them. Are many of these items unnecessary? Let’s discuss it together
Personally, I think items 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9 are unnecessary – installing blind plates only to have to remove and replace them frequently is very inconvenient from an operational perspective, and there’s no real risk involved either.
Personally, I think it is still necessary. There is an unwritten rule in the chemical industry: valves cannot be used as effective isolation measures, as they may experience internal leakage; therefore, blind flanges should be used as isolation methods
I also think it is very necessary to treat the operators as if they were fools, and then consider the importance of installing blind flanges from the perspectives of safety and process efficiency.
It is highly necessary to install blind plates. I’d like to share my experience with blind plate operations. When two different materials are transported through the same pipeline, it’s necessary to seal one end of the pipeline using a blind plate, in order to prevent the risk of mixing of the materials due to incorrect valve operation. Additionally, when installing or removing blind plates, hand valves are present, and these must also be sealed with lead seals to prevent hands from coming into contact with the valves and causing the materials to spill.
1. In actual operation, so many blind flanges reduce efficiency. 2. Personally, I believe only manufacturers without any operational experience need so many of them； 3. The experts who developed this standard listed everything in detail in order to shirk responsibility.
It is definitely necessary to install blind plates, as this ensures better safety. However, in actual production, the procedures required for installing and removing blind flanges are indeed too complicated, and when unskilled personnel are involved, there is a great risk associated with the act of installing and removing such flanges!
