I am currently engaged in the production design of ship pipelines, and now I want to switch to chemical pipeline design. I’m not sure whether the work processes are similar in both fields For ships, a 3D model is created using PDMS based on the design institute’s PID, from which 2D construction drawings or 3D ISO axonometric views are generated, and a list of pipe fitting materials is compiled. Is it the same for chemical pipeline design?
Piping work is a fundamental task that requires solid basic skills and diligence akin to that of engineers. There are significant differences between ship piping design and chemical process piping design, mainly due to the different standards and specifications. The chemical piping specialty is responsible for creating construction drawings using CAD based on the PID provided by the process engineering team, while the axonometric views are generally drawn by the construction company itself, in accordance with the requirements of the design scope. The adoption rate of PDS or PDMS in chemical engineering design institutes is not very high; it’s a bit better in larger organizations. The bill of quantities needs to be submitted for procurement.

Don’t fall into the trap of chemical piping; ships are a good choice

PDMS is quite widely used; piping is a labor-intensive task
