Recently, for a renovation project, a batch of high-pressure oxygen flow meters were used, with an oxygen pressure of around 5.5 MPa and normal temperature. It turns out that the flow meter used on the production line is made of stainless steel, but calculations show that the flow velocity at the rated flow rate reaches 18 m/s. I checked the standards: under these oxygen pressure conditions, the flow rate for stainless steel materials must not exceed 4.5 m/s. For this renovation, I wanted to use a better material, but after consulting many manufacturers, only stainless steel was available. This is my first time working with high-oxygen environments; I’m not sure if there are better materials for oxygen flow meters, or if there are other alternatives.
Check the regulations for building oxygen stations; they specify the oxygen flow rates for oxygen pipelines made of different materials. Additionally, by coordinating with the product manufacturer and determining the flow meters that need to be installed based on your production requirements, and given that all conditions are met, the manufacturer should be able to provide relevant guarantees as additional conditions. It is recommended to stick to the flow meter used in the original design; it’s best to avoid adding unnecessary complications. If this item is to be selected and replaced, it constitutes a technical modification, and there should be approval process documents as well as signatures from the relevant departments. One must not act arbitrarily – remember this!
