Pipeline insulation, pipe shells – determination of thickness

This post was last edited by 2005180005 on 2019-6-3 at 13:55. The pipeline is equipped with heat tracing and uses a shell-and-tube insulation system; how do we determine the inner diameter of the insulating shell?
If you want precision, then fine. If you want it simple, just increase the outer diameter of the pipe by one size and round it off.
If it is electric heating, its impact can be ignored, and insulation material matching the outer diameter of the pipe can be used directly. In the case of steam heating, the heating pipe is usually 1/2” in diameter; in such cases, insulation material of a higher quality than that used for the current pipe should be employed. Of course, if customization is possible, precise values can be calculated and then used to order the appropriate insulation material.
