It should work! As long as it meets the strength requirements!
It is best to make openings in the pipes on the side, as vibrations caused by the installation of the pipes may lead to cracks at the joints. It might be better to add a reinforcing ring, just for reference.
I’ve never seen pipes connected to the holes on pipe caps before; however, in our company we usually make holes in the pipes on the side sides and then reinforce them, or we weld several tees together in sequence.
It’s better to have an opening on the side; this hole is too large. Adding a reinforcement plate to the top of the pipe cap is not a good idea
