There is a valve with DN80 and 2.5MPa rating in the plant; the length of the valve body (the distance between the two flange faces) is around 280. The valve I bought now is also a DN80, 2.5MPa valve, but its body size is only 240. I’d like to ask why this is the case. They’re all standard specifications, with the same pressure and dimensions – so why are there two different versions? Thank you all
Is it because the valve material and manufacturer are different?
I checked again and found a national standard regarding the length of metal valve structures; it contains a table showing that valves of the same model are available in short, medium, and long lengths. I wonder whether manufacturers can choose whichever length they want? Is this indicated on the valve body? I still have to go and measure the gauge distance
Check what the standards are – is there any cutting corners?
When making a purchase, it is necessary to first understand the various performance parameters of the valve, among which the structural length is something that requires attention.
There are a total of 6 lengths for standard ball valves, so it’s best to check the length of your existing ball valve before making a purchase.

For the series below 2.5 MPa, there are three specifications; the ones used on-site are of the long type, he purchased the medium-sized version, and there is also a short-type valve. When buying valves, it’s best to specify the dimensions to the purchasing department. We didn’t know this before; we encountered such situations several times – the valves were too large to be installed, so we had to return them, which delayed production
