SUS316/SF – what does SF stand for?
Only this brief introduction to SUS316F stainless steel could be found: SUS316F is an austenitic free-cutting high-grade stainless steel (with an appropriate amount of sulfur added); it has good corrosion resistance, is easy to machine and process, and yields a high surface finish, making it suitable for use in components such as shafts. SUS316F stainless steel exhibits good plasticity, toughness, cold formability, and weldability; the addition of Mo element endows it with a special structure that provides corrosion resistance. It is also used as \"marine steel\" because it possesses better resistance to chloride corrosion compared to SUS304.
JIS Japanese Carbon Steel Forgings for General Use; therefore, it is suspected that SF is a forged steel. Japanese SCS 14A is equivalent to American CF8M.
