I would like to ask the experts on this forum about the difference between having the meter in front and the valve behind, versus having the valve in front and the meter behind. In most processes or installations, the pipes are arranged with the meter in front and the valve behind – is there any reason for that? What effects would it have if it were changed to have the valve in front and the meter behind?
This should be set according to the requirements of the manufacturing process; it can’t be implemented following the pattern of “sensor in front and valve behind, or sensor behind and valve in front”, right? For reference.
The instrument has requirements regarding the fluid state; in the case of a front valve, changes in the valve position will alter the flow pattern of the fluid, resulting in fluctuations in the instrument’s measurements and significant errors
The pipeline downstream of the valve may not be filled to capacity, which can lead to measurement errors in instruments such as electromagnetic flowmeters. For pressure gauges, it is necessary to determine whether they are used to measure the pressure before or after the valve. The pressure before the valve generally decreases as the valve opens more; whereas the pressure after the valve increases as the valve opens more. A pressure gauge for the pump outlet should be installed before the valve, as otherwise it will not be possible to accurately reflect the pressure at the pump outlet.
For pressure gauges, the pressure values before and after the valve are different. For flowmeters, it may involve whether the measured values are accurate.
