During the construction of the project, DN15 stainless steel heat tracing pipes were encountered. Welding these pipes together posed a risk of poor weld quality, while using double-socket pipe clamps (which would require a large number of them) was costly. It was proposed to use a section of DN20 stainless steel pipe with a length roughly equivalent to that of the double-socket pipe clamps, in order to replace them. Both the DN20 and DN15 pipes have a wall thickness of 2.9 mm. Compared to the socket-welded pipe clamps used for DN15 pipes, these alternatives have a slightly thinner wall thickness. I wonder if anyone has used this approach before; I would appreciate everyone’s opinions on whether such a substitution is feasible and whether it violates any regulations.
Changing the full penetration joint to a fillet weld increases the probability of leakage; it shouldn’t be done.
All work must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the construction drawings; one cannot assume anything otherwise. Worried about this and that, things like costs and such.
