The rubber-lined butterfly valves used in water treatment systems fail to close properly after being in use for some time; a gap always remains, and they can no longer be closed. Sometimes, even newly installed butterfly valves fail to close properly after just a few days of use. What is the reason for this? Is it deformation or sticking of the rubber lining?
Could there be other reasons besides this?
There are also slag, stones, and sediment getting stuck.
What kind of rubber is used? Is there anything else in the water?
Is it manual or electric? If it doesn’t close properly in manual mode, it might be due to rubber deformation; for electric models, check the switch’s travel to see if power is cutting off prematurely
The swelling effect of the material used or of rubber could be the cause. For applications involving leakage, turbine butterfly valves are generally used; if it’s not possible to close them fully, the set screw on the turbine head can be adjusted – loosening it slightly allows for further closure. If closing them still isn’t possible, then it’s necessary to turn to another valve manufacturer
