May I ask how the methods for pipeline inspection are determined? I have checked GB20225 (which is now obsolete), GB3501 (also now obsolete); neither GB50325 nor GB50184 specifies under what circumstances penetrant testing should be used or when radiographic testing is appropriate. GB50184 lists the inspection grades for welds, but it does not indicate when PT or RT should be employed
Refer to Table 9.3.1 in GB 50517; select the appropriate non-destructive testing methods and their application ratios based on the pipeline category

To add further, the method of flaw detection depends on whether the project follows the standards for industrial metal pipelines (GB50184) or those for petrochemical metal pipelines (GB50517/SH3501); The poster is inquiring about the industrial standard GB50184, which also specifies the inspection methods.
