Prevention first, life above all. ----------------------------------------- On November 5, 2023, Baodi Steel Pipe successfully produced its first straight-seam submerged arc welded pipe designed for oil and gas transportation, with a steel grade of X80, a wall thickness of 40 millimeters, and a diameter of 1219 millimeters, using the precision welding equipment at Baoshi Shun Company’s new energy pipeline manufacturing plant. Tests showed that all the key performance indicators of this pipe met the technical requirements, setting a new record for the company in terms of the maximum wall thickness for X80-grade straight-seam submerged arc welded pipes produced. Baoshishun Company attaches great importance to the development of this new product. It actively organized departments such as equipment, technology, and quality, as well as the production plants, to conduct a thorough analysis of various factors including equipment capabilities and standard requirements, as well as the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and dimensional characteristics of the steel sheet raw materials. Based on this analysis, important process parameters were determined, such as the dimensions of the bevels for milling, joint alignment parameters, welding procedures, and the expansion rate. After 4 rounds of welding test plate experiments, 2 tube section welding tests, and performance tests after diameter expansion, the optimal welding process parameters and groove welding material combinations were determined. This trial production of the new product not only expands the company’s range of straight-seam submerged arc welded pipe products, but also tests the capacity of the equipment used in the manufacturing lines for pipes for new energy applications. It also enables the accumulation of a large amount of data and technical experience related to the production of thick-walled, high-grade straight-seam welded pipes, laying a solid foundation for future mass production of similar products.
