In TSG Z6002-2010, what is the difference between pipe corner weld specimens and tube sheet corner weld specimens? For example, do pipe branch supports fall under pipe corner welds or tube sheet corner welds?
Pipe fillet welds generally refer to the welds where pipes are connected to each other, such as at the point where an elbow connects to a straight pipe. The tube sheet fillet weld refers to the weld where the tube meets the plate, such as the connection area between the tube and the tube sheet in heat exchangers. If the pipe branch support is the junction between a pipe and a flat plate, it should be classified as a pipe sheet fillet weld. .
The connections on the pipe branch supports are also branch pipes; based on the above two diagrams, it is impossible to determine whether the welds between the branch support and the main pipe are of type 2FG or 2F.
Level 2F has only fillet welds, while 2FG has both fillet welds and butt welds.
My understanding is that 2FG refers to a fully penetrated weld.
Is the difference between the two related to the welding technique used? One uses flat welding while the other uses longitudinal welding, and the shape of the weld seam is also different: lol
The fillet welds in pressure pipelines are not merely protruding pipe supports; however, nowadays welding of these pipe supports generally requires full penetration, which leads to a slight difference in understanding regarding fillet welds. The actual construction specifications for pressure pipelines specify the welding methods and requirements——
There’s no big difference; taking the exam for butt welding is sufficient to cover fillet welding as well
But in practice, even though the welding project meets the requirements, 2FG or 5FG is still required, claiming it is for use in welding branch pipe bases.
The boss should belong to the pipe fillet weld (pipe + pipe), using 2F/2FR. Because full penetration is required now (to avoid problems), the examination regulations do not specify whether it should be a fixed-type or an inserted-type design, but the specifications do provide that information.
