Our company now possesses the capability to manufacture intelligent steel pipes, which will further facilitate the full digital transition, fully intelligent operation, and lifecycle management of key pipelines in China. ”On January 9, 2024, Liu Tao, director of the Intelligent Manufacturing Research Center at the Bohai Equipment Research Institute, explained. Keeping pace with **Pipeline Group’s efforts to develop \"smart pipelines,\" Bohai Equipment took the lead in conducting research on intelligent steel pipe technologies. In December 2022, it undertook Pipeline Group’s project on \"the development of smart pipe bodies and their performance testing.\" This project aims at the intelligent development of oil and gas pipelines; by integrating smart sensors into the manufacturing process of pipes used for oil and gas transportation, it enables intelligent monitoring of these pipelines throughout their entire lifecycle, from manufacturing to the end of their service life. This provides the necessary equipment support for the fully intelligent and safe operation of key pipelines. The technology of implanting smart sensors into the steel pipes used for oil and gas transportation is a first in China. Since the sensors installed on the steel pipe body have a weak capacity to withstand mechanical forces, operations such as rotation and conveyor transport during the steel pipe manufacturing process can easily cause damage to these sensors. In light of this, the Bohai Equipment Research Institute, in collaboration with manufacturing units, started by addressing aspects such as processing equipment and manufacturing processes, and innovatively developed techniques for implanting intelligent sensors in pipe bodies as well as methods for testing their performance. These approaches resolved the challenges associated with the manufacturing of intelligent pipes and quality control, ensuring that all performance parameters meet the requirements for the development of \"smart pipelines\".
