Recently, I received a feedback regarding after-sales service of a valve: the valve does not close properly and leaks internally. Based on the discussion with the user over the phone, the medium in question is a slightly viscous, acidic titanium suspension, which is formed by reacting powdered titanium ore with sulfuric acid. The valve is made of carbon steel with a PTFE-lined ball valve; the production line operates continuously 24 hours a day, and the valve is opened and closed several times per day. The user returned the internally leaking valve to the factory, and upon disassembly and inspection, it was found that there were medium residues on the spherical surface, causing wear on that surface; this was the main cause of the internal leakage. Through further communication with the user, it was learned that after internal leakage was detected during use, the operator used a lever to close the valve, which further caused wear on the ball surface and exacerbated the internal leakage. In such situations, it is necessary to stop using forceful methods to close the valve; instead, the valve should be removed promptly, its surface cleaned of any accumulated substances, and then reinstalled. Another approach is to use gentle movements to close the valve, repeating this process several times so that the fluid flowing through the pipeline can help remove any adhering substances. In summary: It is more important to develop the operational skills, adaptability, and learning ability of workers, rather than relying solely on brute force. Ultimately, our company decided to provide training on valve operation for the employees who directly handle the equipment at the customer’s facilities, in order to improve their skills and strengthen the partnership between the two parties!
