We purchased two valves, only to find that the nuts supplied by the vendor were not manufactured to the thickness specified in HG/T 20635; instead, they were made according to the standards of GB/T 6170. The difference is that, for the same diameter, the nuts made under GB/T 6170 are much thinner (for example, for an M76 nut, the thickness is 76 for the former and only 61 for the latter). We are now concerned that such thin nuts might not have sufficient strength.
A thinner nut thickness can indeed affect its load-bearing capacity and durability. The nut thickness design according to the HG/T 20635 standard generally takes into account the load-bearing requirements in specific application environments, whereas nuts conforming to the GB/T 6170 standard may not fully meet the mechanical property requirements in special application conditions. If the valve operates under harsh conditions such as high pressure, high load, or vibration, thin nuts may become loose or even damaged due to being unable to withstand high stresses. It is recommended to consult the supplier or technical experts to determine whether it is necessary to replace the nuts with ones that better meet the application requirements, in order to ensure the safety and reliability of the system. .
To address such issues, first take a look at the requirements specified in the technical agreement for your procurement. Is it used in pressure pipelines of petrochemical enterprises, and what standards are applied? Are the medium, temperature, and pressure provided? Firstly, according to HG20634, it is permissible to use commercial-grade fasteners such as those specified in GB/T 6170; however, this is only applicable in applications where the pressure rating is less than or equal to 150 pounds, the operating temperature is below 300 degrees, and there are no toxic or harmful gases present. All three of these conditions must be met. If more than these three conditions are met, professional-grade fasteners must be used.
