I would like to ask the experts here: as a pipeline materials engineer in my previous company, when preparing the pipeline grade table, the material specifications for all butt-welded connections (DN50 and above) were different from those applicable to other key butt-welded pipe components, such as elbows. For example, the material standard for carbon steel elbows is 8163, while that for pipe caps is GB711. I would appreciate it if you experts could give me some advice; thank you very much
The choice of GB711 rather than the material specification GB8163 for pipe caps may be due to the fact that GB711 specifies the technical requirements for steel plates and strips, making it suitable for manufacturing pipe caps at the ends of closed pipes, while GB8163 is the standard for seamless steel pipes and is more appropriate for the connecting parts of pipes such as elbows. Engineers may have chosen more suitable material standards based on the specific application requirements and manufacturing processes of the pipe caps. .
I haven’t used it this way before; GB8163 requires fittings that are compatible with it, as long as the pressure rating meets the requirements
Elbows, tees, and reducers are manufactured using steel pipes as raw materials, while pipe caps are made from steel plates. These are merely standards for the raw materials, not standards for the pipe fittings themselves.
The pipe caps must be forged; the specifications for pipes are not suitable – the specifications for sheets of metal should be used instead.
