Along with aircraft carriers and luxury cruise ships, they are considered the \"jewels in the crown\" of the world’s shipbuilding industry. In the manufacturing process of such ships, a key component is required – ultra-low temperature valves. Previously, domestic shipbuilders relied mainly on imports from abroad to use such components. In recent years, Hudong Shipbuilding Valve Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group), has made persistent efforts and achieved significant breakthroughs in the development of ultra-low temperature valves for LNG ships, successfully breaking foreign monopolies and providing strong support for the localization of China’s full range of marine ultra-low temperature valve products. Recently, the first 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier built by Hudong-Zhonghua for COSCO Energy (H1892A) was berthed in Dock No. 2 of the Changxing Shipbuilding Base. Developed and designed independently by Hudong-Zhonghua, the ship has a total length of 295 meters, a beam of 45 meters, and a draft of 26.25 meters. Its speed is 19.5 knots, and it is certified by the China Classification Society (CCS) as well as the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the China Classification Society (CCS). This ship is a key product developed by Hudong Zhonghua in response to **calls, aimed at ensuring self-sufficiency and control over critical core equipment and materials. For the first time, domestic materials for core equipment in low-temperature systems such as LNG low-temperature butterfly valves and low-temperature expansion joints will be used in large LNG carriers. The proportion of domestically produced low-temperature valves will exceed 80%, and the use of various newly developed domestic equipment materials has raised the degree of localization of large LNG carriers to over 70%, reaching a record high and significantly enhancing the autonomy and control capabilities of these vessels. HDZC has carried out thorough optimizations to the ship’s design: it features a dual-fuel low-speed engine (XDF) propulsion system and an L03+ type cargo containment system. Additionally, technical upgrades have been made by installing a re-liquefaction unit, building on CNPC’s liquefied natural gas technology, thereby enabling a wide range of speed and vapor balance options under different operating conditions – allowing flexible adaptation to various long and short sea routes around the world. This project is equipped with domestic propellers and domestic SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems, which further optimize the configuration of the main engine and the matching of propellers, thereby reducing overall energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions and supporting the concept of low-carbon development. The design takes full account of the compatibility with over 100 major LNG terminal stations around the world, as well as compatibility with FS RU systems; as a result, this type of vessel features wide navigability and high versatility.
