The condensate from the steam distribution stations across the entire plant is being collected. The on-site construction work has been carried out as planned; however, now there is liquid slugging in the pipelines. I would like to ask the experienced users on this forum how to deal with this issue?
1. Before putting the steam pipeline into use, it is necessary to check that the drain and condensate drainage system is functioning properly and unobstructed, and that any water accumulated within the pipeline has been drained away. 2. Design and install a reasonable and standardized hydrophobic drainage system to effectively discharge the condensate water in the pipes in a timely manner. 3. Choose a trap with good installation performance, high water drainage capacity, and strong adaptability to load changes. 4. After the system is shut down, the corresponding traps and drain valves in the steam pipelines should remain open. Meanwhile, the steam inlet valves should be maintained regularly to ensure they close tightly, thereby preventing steam from leaking into the shut-down steam pipelines. 5. Monitor changes in steam parameters during operation, with particular attention to steam temperature; make adjustments promptly if any abnormal drop in temperature is detected. 6. When warming steam pipes, increase the temperature first and then the pressure, ensuring that the pipes are overheated before raising the pressure. During the pipe warming period, the temperature rise rate should be controlled at 2–5°C/minute, while the pressure increase rate should be kept at 0.1–0.2 MPa/minute. 7. Water hammer incidents caused by operational errors must be strictly avoided; for example, delaying the timing of valve closure or allowing steam to leak into pipes that are not in use ; Before putting the steam pipeline into use, the corresponding drain system and similar components are not verified. 8. Arrange the pipes in a scientific and reasonable manner; for example, have the branch pipes bend downward, and install corresponding drainage valves at the points where condensation tends to accumulate at the lowest levels of the pipes.
