Hydrogen transmission pipelines, as key infrastructure for the large-scale, long-distance, and stable delivery of hydrogen energy, not only help to address the challenges associated with the utilization of new energy sources and promote the development of the downstream hydrogen industry chain, but also play a decisive role in the growth of the hydrogen energy sector. To date, China’s first hydrogen-infused long-distance pipeline was put into operation in November 2024. The Baotou-Linfen pipeline project has a total investment of 910 million yuan; its main pipeline is approximately 249 kilometers long. The pipeline’s designed annual gas transport capacity is 393 million cubic meters, and this capacity can be increased to 2 billion cubic meters per year after pressure enhancement. In addition, 12 hydrogen pipeline projects made progress in 2024; according to public data, once completed, these projects will enable China to have a total length of 2,363.77 km of hydrogen pipelines.
