The low-temperature butt-welded steel pipes made from CC60 material, with CL32 steel grade, an outer diameter of 1626 millimeters, and a wall thickness of 17.48 millimeters, have been produced through the entire manufacturing process. Tests have shown that all technical specifications of the product meet or exceed the requirements set out in the technical standards, indicating that Bohai Equipment possesses the capability to manufacture large-diameter low-temperature butt-welded steel pipes independently. As a key transportation component in extreme environments, large-diameter low-temperature butt welding steel pipes are designed to operate at temperatures as low as minus 46 degrees Celsius; they must meet stringent manufacturing standards, with the straightness deviation over their entire length kept within 0.1%, and the roundness error at the pipe ends not exceeding 0.75%. Compared to conventional products, its technical challenges lie in addressing the need for high-precision control of the product’s dimensions, while also ensuring that the welds maintain good low-temperature toughness at minus 46 degrees Celsius after heat treatment. Faced with these challenges, Giant Dragon Steel Pipe Company formed a special task force composed of key personnel from various departments such as technology, production, quality control, and equipment management, and worked together with front-line employees to carry out discussions that combined theory with practice. During the operation of the project, the company carried out various technical research and development efforts, including studies on the three-roller forming and welding process combination for steel pipes, research on post-weld heat treatment processes for steel pipes, design and development of equipment for pipe alignment, and modifications to welding equipment used for butt joints. As a result, the company was able to master the manufacturing techniques and key quality control aspects related to large-diameter low-temperature butt-welded steel pipes.
