Recently, the Inner Mongolia section of China’s first long-distance, large-scale green hydrogen pipeline project – the hydrogen transmission pipeline from Ulanqab City in Inner Mongolia to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region – was officially approved. This pipeline is a **piloting project** aimed at promoting the large-scale transportation of green hydrogen and exploring an integrated commercial operation model for hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization. It is also a key project for transporting green hydrogen within Inner Mongolia’s green hydrogen delivery network, and it was invested in and constructed by Sinopec Xinxing (Inner Mongolia) West-to-East Hydrogen Transportation New Energy Co., Ltd. Once completed, the project will effectively reduce the transportation costs of green hydrogen, further promote its adoption, and contribute to the development of the entire hydrogen industry chain in Inner Mongolia, covering production, storage, transportation, and utilization. It is understood that on June 24, the demonstration project for hydrogen pipeline transportation from Ulanqab City in Inner Mongolia to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (the Inner Mongolia section) was approved. The entity responsible for this project is Sinopec Xinxing (Inner Mongolia) West-to-East Hydrogen Transportation New Energy Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 1,500,486.7 million yuan. Main construction contents and scale: The demonstration project for a hydrogen pipeline from Ulanqab City in Inner Mongolia to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (Inner Mongolia section) starts at Shangdu Station in Shangdu County, Ulanqab City, passes through Shangdu County and Xinghe County in Ulanqab City, and reaches the border between Inner Mongolia and Hebei Province where it connects with the pipeline in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. The overall direction of the pipeline is from north to south, with a total length of approximately 119 kilometers (51 kilometers in Shangdu County and 68 kilometers in Xinghe County). Two new stations and three valve rooms will be constructed. The design pressure is 6.3 megapascals. The diameter of the pipeline from the Shangdu station to the cleaning station in Xinghe is D457 millimeters, while the diameter from the cleaning station in Xinghe to the Mongolia-Hebei boundary is D610 millimeters. The designed transport capacity is 100,000 tons per year in the short term, with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year reserved for future use. Project construction period: November 2025–December 2027.
