Since work began on June 5, the carbon dioxide pipeline project between Jilin Petrochemical and Jilin Oilfield has seen 286 welds completed, covering a length of 3.6 kilometers; the project is progressing steadily and smoothly. Once completed, this project will be of great significance, as it will become China’s longest, largest in diameter, highest in pressure, and most extensive supercritical/dense-phase carbon dioxide transmission pipeline. More than 4 million tons of carbon dioxide can be sequestered underground each year, playing a crucial role in China’s ‘dual carbon’ strategy; it is truly a worthy member of the team dedicated to carbon reduction. Since the project began, the Carbon Pipeline Department of Jilin Oilfield Construction Company, as the main contractor, has carried out scientific planning, always regarding quality and safety as the lifeline of the project. To ensure the quality of the project, the staff strictly oversees each stage of the work process; from material inspection to welding techniques, no error is permitted at any step. During the project progression, the construction team also faced numerous challenges. During the initial stage of the \"100-hour running-in\" period for the automatic welding unit 2, quality defects such as extensive lack of fusion and burn-through occurred. Faced with the challenges, the project team responded promptly by holding 3 consecutive quality analysis meetings to thoroughly investigate the root causes of the problems. After 5 days of relentless effort, including repeated adjustments to the equipment parameters and organized training for the workers, the challenge was finally overcome. All 65 welds performed in subsequent welding operations passed the inspection on the first try, successfully completing the \"100-weld trial\" task, which demonstrated the builders’ high level of skill as well as their commitment to excellence and pursuit of perfection. As planned, the construction of the main pipelines for this project will be completed by the end of November this year, with the work on connecting 68 sites finished by the end of the year ; Cleaning and diameter measurement will be carried out in January 2026, followed by a hydraulic test of the pipeline and the joining of the ends once the weather warms up. The steady progress of Section 4 of the carbon dioxide pipeline project at Jilin Petrochemical–Jilin Oilfield represents a crucial step for this oilfield in establishing a \"CCUS + industrial application\" framework and in becoming a model area for green and low-carbon transformation. It also provides strong impetus for China to achieve its \"dual carbon\" goals.
