This cross-sectional specification for petroleum pipeline steel is the first of its kind in China, and it will be used in the construction of a key gas pipeline project – the Changchun to Shijiazhuang natural gas pipeline. Oil pipeline steel is primarily used in the production of pipelines for transporting oil and natural gas. It belongs to the category of low-carbon microalloyed steels, is a product with high technical content and added value, and represents the hot-rolled product with the highest hot strength available at Tangsteel at present. This product features a unique spiral structure, excellent welding properties, and good corrosion resistance, and is widely used in **pipeline network construction. Due to the special diameter requirements for the gas transmission pipelines in this project, the cross-sectional dimensions of the oil pipeline steel produced in this batch must be at least 1700 mm, which represents an increase of around 10% compared to the usual cross-sectional dimensions of oil pipeline steel. Furthermore, due to the extremely high strength of oil pipeline steel products, an increase in the product’s cross-sectional area will place a significant strain on the carrying capacity of hot rolling equipment. To ensure a stable production process and product quality that meets standards, the technical staff at Tangsteel developed simulated billets and conducted numerous tests. Based on the test results and the requirements regarding product performance, they made precise adjustments to the load distribution among the various stands in the roughing and finishing rolling processes. During the production process, the production line strictly controls key process parameters such as the heating time and temperature of the slab, as well as the temperature at which rolling begins. At the same time, it dynamically adjusts model control parameters related to sheet shape, temperature control, and dimensions based on the actual production conditions of the steel strip, thereby ensuring that high-quality products are produced.
